TBI Chat - A Brief History

Thank you Sagasha! Your inspiration and dedication to the brain injury community is legendary.

October, 1996 - Sagasha, a man of vision and compassion, founds the premier website for brain injury peer support on the World Wide Web. Sagasha, having received a brain injury from a bout of encephalitis, feels grateful for his recovery and a sense of responsibility to use his skills to help other survivors and their families. He envisions an online community where survivors and caregivers alike come and share information and resources. The site starts out with chat rooms and eventually includes places to post art and fiction, members' stories, discussion boards, and much more. He is joined at the outset by a core group of dedicated people who manage the chat rooms while he focuses on the webmaster side of things. His vision is realized beyond his wildest dreams as TBIChat receives international acclaim.

June, 2000 - TBI Chat Org Inc. is incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and the Board of Directors is formed. Sagasha is elected President and Treasurer, Jonboat is elected Vice President, and Toby is elected Secretary.

October, 2002 - The board votes to spin off the chat rooms and focus solely on the website. dash and jonboat, being the administrators of the chat rooms, accept the invitation to take on ownership. The chat rooms are now known as http://www.braininjurychat.org. The website is now known as http://www.tbihome.org. The tradition of unparalleled peer support online continues uninterrupted.

November, 2003 - Sagasha retires from the website and resigns from the board. Jonboat is elected President and Treasurer, Toby is elected Vice President, and Curly joins the board and is elected Secretary. The domain name www.tbichat.org is given to the chat rooms to be implemented after a transition period.
